Update following new government guidelines from 1st June 2020

13th May 2020

Dear Parent / Carers

We hope you and your family are all keeping safe and well.

Since the lockdown began on Monday 23rd March 2020 South Acton Nursery School and Children’s Centre has been open every day, including the Easter holidays, for the children of key workers and some vulnerable children. Even with just this small number of children it has been a challenge, with children of such a young age social distancing is not always possible. However, we have been implementing everything we can to ensure the safety of the children and our staff.

Since the announcement made by the government regarding the partial reopening of schools on 1st June 2020 we are now making plans as to how this may be implemented. This is of course still subject to change if the measures required by the government prior to the 1st June do not happen.

Our first duty as always is the safety of our children and staff. In our professional judgement, at this stage bearing in mind all the measures we need to consider, it is not possible to allow all our children to return back to school at the same time and for their normal hours.

Following government guidelines to keep classes to a maximum of 15 children we are now exploring how this can be done safely. The focus will be for children currently eligible for 3 – 4 year old funding to return first. We recognise that many of you will still not feel comfortable with your children returning to nursery. This is absolutely fine and if you choose to keep them at home please be assured that their place is safe. As we need to know numbers a member of the school leadership team will be contacting you early next week (week beginning 18th May) to discuss your feelings and if you would like your child to return at this time. Please be aware that this may come up as No Caller ID on your phone.

It is likely that initially we will not be able to offer your child full hours and the hours may not be the same as they were prior to lockdown. For example, one of the considerations is that children attend less days per week but stay for longer on those days, we would provide lunch. We are also considering staggering start and finish times. This will cut down on the amount of travelling and number of dropping off / picking up sessions needed. Also it would enable us to carry out a thorough deep clean between each group of children and staff. Obviously until we have a more exact idea of the number of children wanting to return on 1st June 2020 we cannot make any definite plans. Please bear with us until we have been able to contact all our families with 3 and 4 year old funded children and then we hope to be able to provide you with another update by the end of next week.

Please note those children who are currently still attending will not be affected and will carry on as they have throughout the lockdown period. The situation is changing all the time and we will keep you all updated as to when our younger children can begin to return.

We thank you for your patience and support throughout this time and are looking forward to a time when everything goes back to normal. Keep safe everyone.

Kind Regards Bev and Mandy
